MARGHERITA SARFATTI.
LA REGINA SENZA CORONA

DOCUMENTARY ON RAI STORIA

I contributed as a contemporary art expert interviewee to Margherita Sarfatti. La Regina senza corona (2024), a documentary broadcast on Rai Storia (the main Italian tv broadcaster) that offers a nuanced portrait of Margherita Sarfatti, one of Italy’s most influential early 20th-century art critics and patrons.

Directed by Giulia Lorusso Caputi, the film reframes Sarfatti beyond her well-known personal connection to Mussolini, foregrounding her pioneering role as a woman art patron in a cultural landscape dominated by men, her advocacy for modern Italian artists from Sironi to de Chirico, and her complex legacy shaped by modernism and history.

The production draws on archival research and interviews with historians, family heirs, journalists, and contemporary voices, including my contribution, to explore Sarfatti’s enduring impact on art, culture, and memory.
